(New York City) Two teens have been arrested for an attack on a man they believed was gay on a New York subway train. The teens were so brazen they actually videotaped the whole attack.
Police say the pair confronted a 24-year-old New Jersey man just before midnight Saturday on a train in midtown Manhattan. They yelled anti-gay epithets, threatened the man, and one taunted him with a lighter while the other wielded the camera.
Other passengers alerted police and the pair were arrested at the Times Square subway station. Charged with menacing, resisting arrest and obstructing government administration, are Daniel Jamile and Nkrumah Ajomajberin, both 17.
"The only motivation for the perpetrators of this incident was to intimidate a gay person," said Basil Lucas, senior counselor-advocate for New York's Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project.
Lucas called on police to investigate the attack as a hate crime.
Police are reviewing the tape and say more charges are possible.
