(Bozeman, Montana) A white supremist who calls gays "sick" and advocates creating a whites-only, non-Jewish society has qualified to run as a candidate for the nine-member Bozeman School Board.
Kevin McGuire is one of four candidates who will vie for three open seats in the May 3 election.
McGuire is affiliated with the National Alliance, a group described as extremist. The Montana Human Rights network says the group is one of the largest and most influential hate groups in the country.
"Our children are taught about the histories and cultures of Blacks, Latinos, Asians, Jews and Native Americans but any sense of White racial solidarity or White racial pride is condemned as White racism; and that is not right," McGuire told the Bozeman Chronicle.
"I stand against the homosexual agenda currently in our school system which not only preaches acceptance of homosexuality but actively encourages it."
Thirty-nine people, including a Bozeman teacher, signed McGuire's petition to be a candidate.
Earlier this year he and other members of the Alliance distributed racist fliers in Bozeman, Belgrade, Manhattan, Three Forks and Livingston.
He also organized the alliance's 13-person protest at a diversity rally that drew more than 1,000 people to downtown Bozeman in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.
McGuire, who grew up in California, made his activism public while attending Santa Rosa Junior College, where he earned an associate's degree in electronic technology. He wrote an anti-Semitic opinion piece for a student newspaper that outraged Jews and others.
