(Montreal, Quebec) Police Friday confirmed that bodies found in suburban Laval
on Thursday are those of two missing American dancers.
Steve
Wright, a native of Guerneville, in northern California, and Mark Kraynak of
Uniontown, Pennsylvania, had been missing for more than a week.
The bodies, which were severely decomposed, were identified by their clothes, said Laval police spokesman Guy Lajeunesse.
Autopsies will be conducted in an effort to determine the cause of death.
Some 60 officers from Montreal, Laval and Quebec provincial police were involved in the search. The bodies were discovered Thursday in a Laval stone quarry. (story) Lajeunesse said police concentrated their efforts on the quarry because a cell phone call made by Kraynack men tracked his location to the area.
Wright and Kraynak had spent the summer performing at Remington's, a gay strip club in Toronto. Before returning to the US the pair, along with a friend and their agent decided to visit Montreal.
The pair left their hotel early August 22 and Kraynack called one of the other two friends from a taxi to say they were going to an after-hours club in suburban Laval.
That is the last anyone heard from them. The quarry is located near the club.
Kraynak had served with the Army's 82nd Airborne Division in Iraq until early last year. He received a Purple Heart for injuries received in Iraq.
With ambitions of becoming a high-fashion model while he was still stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., he signed up with the Atlanta office of the French Connection Francaise/FCP modelling agency.
But, soon Kraynak became involved with the porn industry.
"He was polite, soft-spoken, and sometimes uncomfortable in the strip club,'' an employee at Remington's, told the Canadian Press.
But, even though he appeared in gay porn he identified as straight and had a girlfriend. Another Remington's worker told the CP that Kraynak was angry the club was promoting him in ads as a gay porn star because he was afraid his girlfriend was find out..
Wright was considered by other dancers to be "a party boy". He liked the life that the money from stripping provided.
Unlike Kraynak, Wright enjoyed his work as a gay stripper.
"He was like a kid in a candy store,'' his agent, Stephen Sirard, is quoted as saying in one U.S. newspaper.
There were reports Wright was looking for work as a stripper in Montreal before returning to Toronto.
