(London) Former Boyzone singer Stephen Gately exchanged vows with his longtime partner Andy Cowles in London on Sunday.
The
couple had a private ceremony under Britain's civil partner law at a hotel near
Buckingham Palace. The couple's families and few close friends are among the
invited guests.
Elton John who had his own civil partnership with David Furnish the week the law went into effect had been expected to attend but sent his apologies and best wishes for the couple.
Gately rose to fame with Boyzone which formed in 1993. He left the band in 1999 to launch a solo career and the band broke up.
He has appeared on stage in the rock opera "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and is about to appear in the "Wizard of Oz" on tour in the UK.
Cowles is an internet entrepreneur.
Three years ago the couple first exchanged vows in Las Vegas in a ceremony not recognized under the law.
Britain's civil partnerships offer all of the rights and obligations of marriage, but without the name.
