(Beaumont, Texas) A Beaumont, Texas gay bar has collapsed leaving little but a pile of rubble in the city's downtown.
The Crockett Street Pub was badly damaged in hurricane Rita, the storm that came on the heels of Katrina last year.
Rita barreled down on southeastern Texas last September.
In the aftermath of the storm the bar was declared unsafe. No one was in the building at the time of Tuesday's collapse.
Police say that the second floor gave way and pancaked onto the ground floor.
Wednesday work crews tore down what was left of the brick exterior walls to prevent further danger.
Beaumont was one of the areas where people fled from New Orleans when hurricane Katrina hit. Just before Rita hit the area was evacuated.
Owners of the pub had hoped that repairs could be made to the building to allow them to reopen but Tuesday night's collapse ended that possibility.
Beaumont has two other gay clubs.
