(Wrightstown, Pennsylvania) The Rev. Ginny Miles has one message for whoever stole a Rainbow flag from in front of Penns Park United Methodist Church in Wrightstown: Put it back or I'll put two more flags in its place.
And Miles says that each time a flag is stolen two more will go up until there is no more room on the church lawn.
The flag disappeared earlier this week. Miles and a number of parishioners say the theft was a hate crime. Police however are treating it as a prank.
The church is gay-positive and Miles said the flag was placed in front of the church to show everyone is welcome.
The area, in Bucks County, not far from Philadelphia is known as an arts community and has a large gay community.
"Jesus said 'Love your neighbor as yourself,' and he didn't say, 'If they're straight, if they're white - There were no conditions. It was just 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' No conditions, period," Miles told WCAU television.
Prisoners believe the theft may be tied to the heated debate in the state over a proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
This week the state Senate approved legislation sending the amendment to voters. The House has passed a similar bill. The two versions must be harmonized and voted on before it is sent to the polls in November.
